The goal of this interactive webinar is to engage IT executives in discussion about the future of AI, ML, and analytics in organizations.  To initiate the discussion, a panel of IT executives and academic experts will highlight important AI, ML, and analytics trends gleaned from the SIM IT Trends survey, academic research, and executive practice.  The panel discussion will be followed by interactive breakout sessions where SIM members will share their own AI, ML, and analytics experiences and collaborate to identify executive priorities for data-centric value creation.  Panelists include Dr. Russell Torres, Assistant Professor of Business Analytics at the University of North Texas and SIM Research Fellow, Dr. Anna Sidorova, Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Information Systems at the University of North Texas, and Laura Melchor McCanlies Chief, Analytics and IT Division at IDB Invest.

 

About the Speakers:

 

Dr. Russell Torres is an Assistant Professor of Business Analytics in the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences at the University of North Texas. He received his Ph.D. in Business Computer Information Systems from the University of North Texas after a career in information technology consulting where he helped clients from a wide range of industries implement enterprise-scale custom IT systems. Dr. Torres teaches courses related to information systems and analytics, including topics such as data mining and machine learning for business and data visualization.  His research interests include data-driven decision-making, organizational impacts of business intelligence and analytics, the use and governance of artificial intelligence, and a wide variety of information technology management topics.  Dr. Torres is a Society of Information Management (SIM) Research Fellow and co-author of  A Survey of Core Research in Information Systems.  His research appears in journals such as the European Journal of Information Systems , Information & Management, the  International Journal of Information Management, and MIS Quarterly Executive.


Dr. Anna Sidorovais passionate about understanding strategic implications of emerging digital technologies and guiding businesses in deploying these technologies for maximum value creation. She is particularly excited about the rise of Artificial Intelligence and helping companies evaluate its impact on their competitive position and internal processes. Anna Sidorova currently serves as an Academic Associate Dean of G. Brint Ryan College of Business. In addition, she maintains her appointment as an Associate Professor of Information Systems and continues her research on organizational impact of digital technologies and teach graduate courses, including a Master’s level course on Artificial Intelligence in Business. Dr. Sidorova has published over 20 journal research articles as well as numerous conference articles related to artificial intelligence, strategic impact of IT, business intelligence and analytics, business process management, enterprise architecture and open-source software development. Prior to joining UNT, Dr. Sidorova was with PwC performance improvement practice in Moscow, Russia, where she advised clients on business process improvement and strategy implementation. She holds an MBA and Ph.D. in Information Systems from Washington State University.


Laura Melchor McCanlies 
is a strategic business technology leader with an entrepreneur’s passion for driving innovation by leveraging data analytics and digital transformation to enhance the customer experience and introduce new sources of revenue.  With more than 30 years of experience, Laura has worked with companies ranging from startups to Fortune 250, across multiple industries including Professional Services, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Engineering, and Impact Investment. 
Currently, Laura is the Chief of Technology and Analytics Division at IDB Invest and she is leading the technology and data transformation at the organization. Before that, she was the IT Chief of Staff at TASB and was leading the Business Relations and the IT Governance office. Laura founded ATX Data Rocks, providing technology and data advisory services to start-ups and small companies.  At Jacobs Engineering, a Fortune 250 company Laura built the Global Business Insights and Enterprise Architecture teams from ground up. Before that, she established and led the Enterprise Shared Services Applications and Business Intelligence teams at Tokyo Electron US; she implemented TEL’s first global customer digital presence.  While in Mexico, Laura managed the IT group at a branch of the French company, Sanofi. She started her career as consultant with Ernst & Young. Laura obtained her MBA and BS in Computer Science at Monterrey Tech, ITESM in México. Laura is a Venture Social Partner at Mission Capital, a program designed to assist participating non-profits in developing earned income generating products and services to supplement their Philanthropic activities, she was also an advisor of Allies Against Slavery.
