Wi-Fi
is an outstanding success story. Although it has been around for
decades, it continues to evolve by adding new functionalities, improving
performance, and delivering new services. It is difficult to imagine
going one day without Wi-Fi. In this talk, we will discuss the latest
generation of Wi-Fi technology, namely, Wi-Fi 6. Wi-Fi 6 is a revolution
compared to any of the previous Wi-Fi generations because it introduces
capabilities that are essential to support a much denser number of
devices per access point, best-in-class security, greater capacity, and
lower latency. We will cover some performance characteristics of Wi-Fi
6, provide a market update, and conclude with future directions towards
Wi-Fi 7. Biography:
Dr.
Carlos Cordeiro is the CTO of wireless connectivity at Intel
Corporation, where he is responsible for next-generation wireless
connectivity technology strategy, standards, ecosystem engagements, and
regulatory. In the Wi-Fi Alliance, he is a member of the Board of
Directors and serves as its Technical Advisor. Due to his contributions
to wireless communications, Dr. Cordeiro received several awards
including the prestigious Intel Inventor of the Year Award in 2016, the
2017 IEEE Standards Medallion, the IEEE Outstanding Engineer Award in
2011, and the IEEE New Face of Engineering Award in 2007. Dr. Cordeiro
is the co-author of two textbooks on wireless published in 2006 and
2011, has published over 100 papers in the wireless area alone, and
holds over 250 patents. He has served as Editor of various journals
including the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, the IEEE
Transactions on Wireless Communications, the IEEE Wireless
Communication Letters, and the ACM Mobile Computing and Communications
Review journal. Dr. Cordeiro is an IEEE Fellow.
