We invite current and eligible prospective members to join us on Monday, November 22nd for an afternoon of volunteering and a casual happy hour with the SIMCAC community. If you are unable to join us for the volunteer window, we still encourage you to join us for the happy hour. As such, when you register, please let us know if you can only volunteer, only attend the happy hour, or both (select one or both tickets as part of the checkout process). We are looking for up to 20 volunteers (between 3PM and 4:30PM), to accept incoming food donations, sort food items, and stock pantry shelves at AFAC in South Arlington. For those of you who aren't familiar, AFAC is a local food bank that provides dignified access to nutritious supplemental groceries to families in Arlington County. Notably, one third of individuals served by AFAC are children, so their work is critical to addressing childhood hunger in the county, making their work even more important during long holiday breaks from school like we have during the holiday season. We are also proud to launch a fundraising campaign for AFAC, where our chapter will match any donations made to AFAC (through our campaign, to a maximum of $1000) between 11/5 and our volunteer window on 11/22. Regardless of whether or not you can join us on 11/22, we hope you'll help us raise money for this amazing organization. Please donate using this link to ensure SIMCAC's match: https://afac.org/campaign/simcac-virtual-food-drive/. After our volunteer window, we'll walk around the corner to New District Brewing, Arlington's first distribution brewery in Arlington since 1916. As mentioned above, if you are unable to volunteer with us, you are still encouraged to join us for the happy hour and toast to a healthy and happy holiday season. The happy hour will start around 4:45PM and we expect to wrap up by 7:00.
