Studies have shown power can corrupt by making us more impulsive, less risk-aware, and less adept at seeing things from other people’s point of view. Learn the different parameters of power and its side effects. How power can, if not managed well, intoxicate and corrupt. Know how to spot the warning signs of powers’ seduction and use it instead, for the greater good.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn what creates bad power and how it doesn’t just affect bad people
- Recognize the importance of feedback and how it can greatly affect trust
- Learn the differences between positional power and personal power
Lorraine Williams is a dynamic professional with over 30 years’ experience leading others. She’s a proven team builder, with a strong focus on process and performance optimization. In April 2022, Lorraine will have celebrated her sixteenth year serving as the Director of Information Technology for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Lorraine is a certified coach through the International Coach Federation (ICF). She is also a Certified Professional Coach through the College of Executive Coaching and a Results Certified Coach through The Neuroleadership Institute. Lorraine’s career spans Government and Corporate America. Noteworthy prior professional endeavors include serving in guidance roles for the Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin. Throughout her career, Lorraine’s underlying passion has been and continues to be Leadership Development. Lorraine feels strongly that leadership is the cornerstone to success regardless of one’s station in life. She feels most privileged having the opportunity to have spent several years in the classroom teaching and grooming IT technicians to become certified systems engineers. On a local level, Lorraine established a Leadership Coaching program within her agency that was endorsed and promoted by the Sheriff. The process is based on Leadership Values, Principles and Emotional Intelligence. So far, she has taken 250+ individuals through her classes and has coached over 200 hours. She has conducted several seminars across the globe, working with groups in the UK, Germany, and the USA. Lorraine feels that coaching and mentoring has enabled her to learn, grow, and most importantly “pay it forward.” Her other charitable interests include teaching Emotional Intelligence to inmates and substance abusers, Guardian Ad Litem through The Florida Department of Children and Families and working with the Humane Society of Lakewood Ranch.
