An Overview and Update on the World of AI and Machine Learning

Did ChatGPT write this overview? How can you be sure? Artificial Intelligence is already changing how we live and is becoming more powerful with each generation.  In this important presentation, Lawrence Husick, who is both a hacker and an intellectual property attorney, will address artificial intelligence, artificial stupidity, and machine learning. What, exactly, is ChatGPT and what it can do? More importantly, what will this software and other similar systems be able to do in the future? In fields as diverse as drug discovery, visual art, music, writing, programming, the law, teaching, and many others, the AI revolution will disrupt and recreate much of what we think of as uniquely human endeavors. Come find out if it is time to welcome our new robot overlords!

Lawrence A. Husick’s extensive experience as a technology consultant, computer system designer, and software author, as well as his career as an intellectual property lawyer give him a unique perspective on the need to focus on innovation as a central pedagogical theme. As a co-director of the FPRI Wachman Center Program on Teaching Innovation, he applies his background in both law and technology to the study of innovation as an organizing principle of history, science and technology, economics, and sociology.

Mr. Husick holds a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Environmental Chemistry from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., where he also did graduate work in microprocessor systems design.

He is a partner in Lipton, Weinberger & Husick, an intellectual property law firm in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University in the Whiting Graduate School of Engineering. He also serves as Co-Director and Senior Fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Center on the Study of Terrorism. He is a founder of several entrepreneurial ventures, including Infonautics Inc., PocketDoctor.com, Fall Prevention Technologies, and Cloud Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves on the Boards of the Clear Vision Foundation, is counsel to the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, and is the past chair of the Board of Visitors of the Samson College of Health Sciences at University of the Sciences. He served for seven years as the Senior Legal Fellow at Apple, Inc. and is a past president and chairman of the Helen Beebe Speech and Hearing Center, a pioneering facility for auditory-verbal education of the hearing impaired.
