SIM Women is a network inside the SIM national association that promotes mentorship, communication and career development amongst the female members of SIM. We are so happy to have SIM Women member and DEI Council member Lee Shull presenting "A Life Transformed: When Moments became Movements" for this month's SIM Women webinar on Wednesday, September 27th at 3pm EDT.
Register above! Once you register, you will receive the webinar access information directly from Zoom.
Great insights come from multiple sources and perspectives, and Lee has an incredible story to tell. He will share his journey and pivotal insights related to societal issues since the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting nearly eleven years ago. His transformation began with the shooting that started in his own neighborhood, and eventually led to his involvement in creating a successful national non-profit organization called Sandy Hook Promise.
Lee's pivot from a nearly three-decade career in business process reengineering and IT to coaching and facilitating discussions on inclusive leadership, personal development, and organizational effectiveness is powerful, real, and self-deprecatingly humorous. During his talk, he will discuss:
- Acknowledging his own biases and areas where he continues to learn and grow as a White, heterosexual man. He will share his ongoing efforts to address these biases and how they may relate to individuals with similar backgrounds within your teams.
- Explaining why he believes that the acronym DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) is not in the right order, and why simply hiring for diversity is not the starting point for addressing these challenges.
- Understanding that we can't all go work somewhere else, but changing our internal culture is difficult, Lee will share practical steps to advance DEIB on your teams.
- Drawing parallels between the successful implementation of large-scale ERP systems and effective practices for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
The goal of his presentation is to encourage individuals to "remove their blinders," broaden their perspectives, and accelerate their DEIB learning for personal and collective improvement. Lee also knows I love resources, so he'll be providing initial resources to help individuals that work for you (who may share his demographic) to begin their learning journey on these topics.
