Cybersecurity Isn’t Enough—The Case for Cyber Resilience

Research shows that most organizations devote the bulk of their resources to preventing and detecting cyber threats, rather than on responding and recovering. This imbalance leaves them exposed to the unknown—such as new risks emerging from technologies like generative AI. Today’s digital defense strategy requires a fundamental mindset shift: “Assume a breach will occur and ensure the organization can recover rapidly with minimal disruption.”

The CIO Roundtable is pleased to welcome Dr. Keri Pearlson, Principal Research Scientist at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and former Executive Director of the Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan (CAMS) research consortium. Drawing on her research, Keri will lead an engaging, interactive conversation about the organizational mindset shifts required to navigate the ever-evolving world of cybersecurity.

Featured Speaker:

Dr. Keri Pearlson, Principal Research Scientist, MIT Sloan School of Management

Dr. Pearlson is an expert in managing and using information, specializing in cybersecurity leadership, management and governance. She is currently a Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Sloan School of Management, and previously the Executive Director of CAMS, a research consortium at MIT Sloan focused on cybersecurity. Dr. Pearlson is a thought leader in cybersecurity culture, resilience, supply chain, and board leadership. One of her current projects studies the executive considerations of cybersecurity from AI. Her work has been widely published including articles in the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, the Wall Street Journal, and many other managerial and academic outlets. Dr. Pearlson serves as an independent director at the cybersecurity firm Barracuda and medical industry company TMF. She participates as an advisory board member for the Society for Information Management (SIM)'s Research Institute and the ADGM Academy Research Center. Prior to her work at MIT, Dr. Pearlson held positions in academia and industry, including a role as the CIO of a large non-profit. She is also the co-author of a popular textbook on information systems management. She holds a doctorate from the Harvard Business School and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Stanford University.
