Katie Smith Bio:

“KJ” Katie James Smith has spent 20+ years building digital products that start where most companies stop — with the people hardest or trickiest to serve. That instinct is the foundation of Humma.AI and its core thesis: design for the margins to build for the center.

As Founder and CEO, Katie is working alongside a world-class team to solve one of AI's most costly failures—the lack of cultural competence that costs the U.S. economy $451 billion annually. Humma pairs a consent-first community network with Empathetic AITM, small language models licensed to healthcare organizations to close parity gaps and deliver better outcomes for everyone. As a California Public Benefit Corporation, 5% of post-profitability revenue is directed to health equity, climate justice, and human rights grantees, with that percentage increasing over time.

A strategist and team builder at their core, Katie has managed portfolios from $20M–$125M and helped scale a startup to $10M in under two years. At Humma, that track record serves one goal: proving the most inclusive AI is also the most effective.   Connect on LinkedIn: Katie Smith- LinkedIn
