Abstract
In 1995, when I discovered SQL injection, I had no comprehension of the gravity of my discovery. I lacked the words, context, and references to fully explain it to other people. To this day, SQL injection remains one of the most prevalent, and destructive security vulnerabilities.
In this context, we must be cautious how we look at information security across time. We often lack the language and technology to fully comprehend the volatile nature of new attacks. Moreover, contrary to convention wisdom, the lessons past can be a hindrance toward progress. How we handled security in 2010 is not the same as 2017. And by 2020 our challenges will change again.
In this presentation, we will take a walk through the past, present, and future of cybersecurity. We will explore some current trends, and where we anticipate them going.
